NOTICE LT17

CP Notices

IRS Notice LT17 is a letter from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) informing you that you have unpaid taxes. The letter will tell you how much you owe, the due date for your payment, and what options you have for paying your debt.

Why it happens:

  • Filing your taxes late
  • Failing to pay your taxes in full
  • Making a mistake on your tax return
  • Not reporting all of your income
  • Claiming deductions or credits that you are not eligible for
Options for responding:
  • If you receive an IRS Notice LT17, you should take action immediately. The IRS will continue to charge interest and penalties on your debt until you pay it in full. You can make a full payment, set up an installment plan, or apply for an offer in compromise.
  • If you are unable to pay your debt in full, you should contact the IRS to discuss your options. The IRS may be willing to work with you to set up an installment plan or reduce your debt through an offer in compromise.
